Los Angeles Bluesman Artwork Jamal Dead At 47, 8/13/13 – LA Times

August 15th, 2013 — 11:09am

artworkLos Angeles Bluesman Artwork Jamal Dead At 47, 8/13/13 – LA Times

Artwork Jamal once remarked that he not only sang the blues, he lived the blues. Someday, his history of hard luck and ill health may be spun into verse. But the powerful, deep-voiced Los Angeles native will sing no more.

Jamal, 47, died Aug. 6 from complications of diabetesheart disease and other ailments, said his wife, Lida Parent-Harris. Read the rest here.

A good friend and a great musician. RIP Artwork!

Our friends in the L.A. Scotch Club are having their yearly “Peatin’ Meetin’” this weekend, a celebration of the smokiest whiskies in the world, and I heard they still have some tickets left:

Luke and I worked it last year, and had a blast. To be clear, THIS IS NOT A SEVEN GRAND SPONSORED EVENT. But, Dustin and Luke will be in attendance, serving up some Peaty cocktails, and you know they roll.

We hope to see you on Wednesday. Happy Independence Day from all of us at Seven Grand!

Pedro, currently sipping Jim Beam. Keeping it real.

213 Cocktail Series: Featuring The Seven Grand Old Fashioned!

June 19th, 2013 — 1:10pm

Seven Grand’s very own Dustin Newsome presents to you the world famous Old Fashioned. This delightful concoction consisting of Bourbon, bitters, sugar and citrus has been a Seven Grand staple since our opening in 2007. Traditionally, the first use of the name “Old Fashioned” for a Bourbon whiskey cocktail was said to have been, anachronistically, at the Pendennis Club, a gentlemen’s club founded in 1881 in Louisville, Kentucky. The recipe was said to have been invented by a bartender at that club in honor of Colonel James E. Pepper, a prominent bourbon distiller, who brought it to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City. Now, a staple cocktail in any establishment based around traditional classic cocktails. Check out how Dustin and the Seven Grand mix it up. We have it batched up on tap too!
